PWM thermostat module with temperature sensor included for PID heating system control.

This module uses PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to control a heater. The module features a wide range of parameters, including the  P, I and D parameters, PWM cycle duration, maximum and minimum values, and other useful options to regulate the PWM system.

The kit enables you to control a thermostatic system via your home automation box. The module will itself control your heating according to the instructions you supply. Then, based on the temperature measured by the sensor, the module will adjust the functioning of the heating system so that it meets the required temperature.

The module also offers three programmable inputs. These inputs can be bistable or monostable switches, or various sensors:

  • Input 1 can be used to enable or disable the thermostat (auto/off) or to determine the status of the heating valve via a flood detector.
  • Input 2 can be used to set the thermostat to a given (adjustable) temperature or determine the status of the heating valve via a condensation sensor.
  • Input 3 can accommodate an opening sensor with the ability to change the status of the heating valve.

The module features a number of different configurable functions:

  • The temperature instruction can be sent via the Z-Wave controller.
  • Choice of output control type: the output relay can be configured appropriately according to whether the module is connected to the heating supply (NO), or to a pilot wire input where On and Off are reversed (NC). Similarly, you can control your air conditioning, switching it on or off.
  • Upper and lower hysteresis: defines the minimum temperature difference between the set temperature and the measured temperature for the module to then switch the heating on or off accordingly.
  • Frost free mode: Specifies a minimum temperature for the heating system connected to the module. By activating this instruction, your heating will never drop below the temperature specified and prevent your pipes from freezing.

By adjusting the module output to operate as NC, you can connect it to the pilot wire input of a heater using a diode pilot wire and thus control the "Comfort" and "Off" settings of the heating.

Installation is extremely simple and enables you to connect up to 3 different switches (one to select the Auto or Off mode and 2 switches or external wired sensors that provide information from the Z-Wave groups associated with the module). You can connect the module in 230VAC (required if using the pilot wire) or 24VDC.

This an economical and environmentally-friendly module: consuming less than 0.4W, it also continuously measures the energy used at any given moment (in Watts) and the total consumption (in kWh) of the device it controls. The power consumed by these devices can therefore be recovered from your home-automation box, giving you a detailed overview of your energy consumption.

Finally, it should be noted that the QUBINO brand has set itself demanding quality and sustainability targets: for this reason they have selected high-performance components such as the OMRON relay. The numerous quality control tests carried out on the module ensure maximum durability (tough enough to operate at temperatures ranging from -10°C to 40°C).
